|When Jack Potter became the branch
manager for Motorola’s distribution
office in Grand Rapids, MI, he had no
idea he would someday be the owner.
In 1960, he purchased the business and
changed the name to Potter Distributing.
Soon after, Motorola began manufacturing
under the brand names Panasonic and
Quasar, which expanded Potter Distributing's
inventory. As the company acquired
more manufacturers' lines, they were
able to offer their retail customers
a greater diversity in electronic
products and appliances. This was
followed by an expansion of their
Grand Rapids territory to include
all of Michigan.
In 1965, Jack's son, Stan, joined
the company. In 1970, when Jack retired,
Stan took on the role of company president.
A few years later, brothers Dennis
and Doug came on board. After Stan
retired in 1996, the company leadership
was handed over to Doug Potter, who
remains as the current president.
Under Doug's expert guidance,
LG Appliance and Electronics, Danby
Appliance, Five Star, and Frigidaire
were added to the already impressive
line-up of brand names, and Potter
Distributing was named the exclusive
Michigan distributor of Crosley Appliances.
